DELUCCI RETREAT portugal

RELAXATION & LEISURE

RIVER BEACHES
There are many river beaches (praia fluvial) to explore in the region, the closest of which is Louçainha Natural Dams in Serra do Espinhal, which is only 3.5 miles away.  The freshness, the green hillside scenery, the serenity and peace of this place, make it one of the most attractive natural areas in the Municipality. Here, you will find natural swimming pools, a picnic area and a panoramic restaurant. There are many other beautiful river beaches to be explored a little further afield.

WALKING
In addition to exploring the forest trails directly on our doorstep, there are also several officially marked walks of varying abilities all within easy reach by car.  These walks take in spectacular and breathtaking landscape, including castles, waterfalls and abandoned mountain villages. The area is abundant with wildlife (including deer and eagles) so be sure to take your camera!

SIGHTSEEING
The options are extensive.  Just some of the places of interest within easy reach include the historical city of Coimbra, Buçaco Palace, Conimbriga Roman Ruins, castles and a whole network of charming schist villages.

SILVER COAST
The Atlantic ("Silver") coast is a 45 minute drive where you will find beautiful white sandy beaches on which to sunbathe and relax.  You can even watch the local fishermen bringing in their catch from traditional Portuguese fishing boats.

KAYAKING
Kayaking on the River Mondego from Penacova to Coimbra makes a fun day out and a great opportunity to observe the many eagles which fly overhead.  Moonlit kayaking trips are also available on certain days of the month.

RELAXATION
For total relaxation treat yourself to a day of pampering at the spa in Coimbra.

HORSE RIDING
Miranda do Corvo has its own equestrian centre where organised rides through the Mountain Range of the Serra da Lousã can be arranged.   The centre also has a zoo, an open air swimming pool and a restaurant specialising in the regional-famous dish "chanfana" (goat stew).

SHOPPING

There is a weekly market in Miranda do Corvo every Wednesday morning selling everything from fresh local produce to clothes, household products, gifts and hand made pottery and wooden furniture.  There is also a selection of shops and cafés in Miranda do Corvo.  In Coimbra, just 30 minutes away, there are two large shopping centres and an abundance of shops and weekly market stalls in the pedestrianised streets of the historic city centre.
