Miranda do Corvo is our closest town being a 5 minute drive down the mountain.

Coimbra

Coimbra is approximately 30 minutes either by car or train from Miranda do Corvo and is situated on the River Mondego.  It was once the capital of the country, back in the 12th century, and today it is still home to the University of Coimbra, one of the oldest academic institutions in Europe. There are many shops, restaurants and bars in Coimbra along with various other attractions worth visiting including the ancient library situated within the university and the nearby botanical garden.

TRANSPORT

Flights

Porto and Lisbon airports are both just under 2 hours drive away, with Porto being the closest.  Both are serviced by low cost airlines from several UK airports. Cheap flights can be booked with Ryanair to Porto or with Easyjet to Lisbon or Porto. TAP is the Portuguese low cost airline which flies from Heathrow and Gatwick to both Lisbon and Porto.  BMI also flies from Manchester to Lisbon.

Car hire

Driving offers you a greater chance to explore the region during your stay and cheap car hire is available at Lisbon and Porto airports. There are a number of different rental companies which can be booked over the internet prior to your arrival, with most of them offering satnav as an optional extra.

Trains

Although the journey from the airport is quicker by car it is also possible to reach us by train.  Fast and cheap intercity trains run from the mainline stations in Porto (Porto Campanhã) and Lisbon (Lisboa Oriente) to Coimbra B, where we will arrange to collect you.  The train from Porto takes 1 hour plus a 30 minute metro ride from the airport to Porto Campanhã station.  From Lisbon the train takes 1½-2 hours with a 5 minute taxi ride to Lisboa Oriente station.

Transfers

Transfers to and from the airport or train station can be arranged at an additional cost to cover fuel and tolls.  Please give as much notice as possible if you require airport transfers.
